MESSENGER: MASCS

December 15, 2007. MESSENGER Release 2 includes MASCS EDR data acquired from the start of the mission through the Earth flyby and the two Venus flybys (August 3, 2004 - June 5, 2007).

MASCS is the Mercury Atmospheric and Surface Composition Spectrometer instrument on MESSENGER. The data sets are produced by the MASCS Science Team at Johns Hopkins Universtiy Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Maryland.

MASCS has two subsystems, UVVS (Ultraviolet and Visible Spectrometer) and VIRS (Visible and Infrared Spectrograph). UVVS data are archived by the PDS Atmospheres Node, and VIRS data are archived by the PDS Geosciences Node. Both data sets are stored on the same archive volume.
